When I was younger I loved all things magical. Movies with witches and fairies, spells and transformations, crystal balls and psychics - I loved it all. In 2001, my 10 year old self saw Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in theaters I remember thinking it was the greatest thing I’d ever seen. Kids my age going to a castle to learn magic? Sign me up. Not to mention that table of treats for Halloween 😍
Halloween was, unsurprisingly, also my favorite holiday. A day dedicated to magic where I got to dress up as a kickass superhero or a fairy princess, and get candy? How would any day ever top that?
As a pre-teen/early teen, I also really loved the TV show That’s So Raven and I remember more than anything wishing I was psychic. Because to me, being psychic seemed like the closest thing in our world to being able to actually cast spells out of a wand. But I always thought it was something you had to be born with, and as of yet, I hadn’t seen the future like Raven, so I thought I missed out.
But then, my perception of the whole thing changed when I was 16. I was invited to a friend’s birthday party and her family was all psychic. Her grandmother gave us individual readings solely off using her intuition (and was beyond accurate) and her mother taught us about angel cards and pendulums, and let us try them out for ourselves!
It was so magical and amazing and I fell in love. The best part though was that our friend’s mom encouraged her grandmother to tell us about how she got started on this path. The grandmother told us that she wasn’t born psychic she started studying and developing it when she turned 18.
Hold up… you could develop it? You could train it like a muscle?! You didn’t have to be born with it! - was all my sixteen year old self needed to hear.
Me and my bestie, Alyssa, both decided that was exactly what we wanted to do. Alyssa gifted me my first set of Angel Cards for my birthday (our other friend had already gifted her a deck!) and we would practice reading them for each other.
We’d read books by Sylvia Browne about our spirit guides and life on the other side - and try out the meditations to connect to our spirit guides. I’ll never forget when we did that meditation, we both individually said we heard the name Devon and saw the same beautiful, bald, angelic-looking black man! Turns out he’s Alyssa’s guide!
So crazy, right? No such thing as coincidences, we couldn’t believe we both picked up on the same thing. It was absolutely proof that what we were hearing was real.
Upon going to college, I still kept the studies up. I read so many books about developing your intuition, about astrology, about fairies, the ascended masters, and of course about the Archangels. I really loved the Archangels, they resonated best with me, and I loved learning about each of their specialities and how I could ask them for help. (Pro-tip, you’re never bothering them, they want you to ask them for help! So ask away!)
When I moved back home from college, Alyssa told me how a local spiritual center, The Long Island Healing and Learning Arts Center in Huntington, NY to be exact!, hosted intuition development classes, and that’s where our friend’s grandma and mother had always gone.
So, I went, by myself. (Alyssa was the grade below me so she was still away at college, herself) I was scared, but I knew it would be amazing.
And it was.
Honestly, going to those regular weekly classes changed my life.
Our teacher, Dawn, was so uplifting and incredible and inspiring. She radiated such vibrant light energy always.
The other women in the classes were all probably double my age, but so incredibly sweet, so inspiring, and always filled with amazing messages.
In the classes, we’d meditate and connect to spirit. I loved, loved getting messages from spirit because it was always so comforting and so reassuring that I was on the right path and things would work out. I was especially in a time of my life where I was struggling to get a job in my field, was single, didn’t really like any of my “friends” that were home, and just felt that weird post-college but still not yet a full on adult in-between stage. So, connecting to spirit and receiving divine, beautiful, encouraging messages really was like going to therapy. It kept my hope up and definitely, absolutely helped me maintain the positive mindset you all know and love.
What I really liked about the class was how we’d all go around the room and tell stories about interactions with the angels or spirit, loved ones on the other side, some kind of undeniable proof that spirit was really with us and sending us signs. I love hearing stories like that, ones where there’s absolutely no other explanation other than this stuff is real.
Eventually, I also took an Angel Card Reading Course and an Automatic Writing course with Dawn at the center, which helped me take my oracle card practice and my connection to spirit even deeper.
We’d practice reading each other with no pressure, because we knew we were all in the same boat. And it was just such an amazing feeling when you’d read someone, hear/see/or feel some kind of information randomly pop into your head, say it out loud and then it resonate exactly with the other person.
Again, just so so amazing and proof this stuff is real.
That’s the thing, you see, we’re all highly intuitive. We are all absolutely capable of giving readings and connecting to spirit. It’s just like any muscle. It’s just a matter of developing it, of training it, of practicing, and above all believing and knowing you can!
Everyone is scared at first when they try reading someone else, everyone is afraid to be wrong, but if you push through that fear, clear your mind and just fully trust that what is popping into you head is there for a reason, you’ll see that spirit will always have your back.
The more I’ve done readings, the less nervous I’ve gotten because I know, my angels wouldn’t lead me wrong. I know how to connect with them and channel them and I know they’re always going to guide me to say exactly what my client needs to hear.
Honestly, having my intuition developed has not only helped me read others, but it’s really helped me in reading myself. Throughout the entirety of my twenties, every time I’ve had a low, I’ve always pulled out one of my (many) decks, or meditated and pulled out a journal for automatic writing, and have just asked spirit for help, for guidance, and what they’d like me to hear. And every single time, it has always made me feel better.
It’s given me hope after breakups, faith during money problems, healing after arguments and rejections, and clarity on what inner work I need to do, and what I literally should do in order to find a place of happiness.
It’s also helped in manifesting. The universe will speak to you through intuitive nudges and feelings, so learning to listen to your gut instinct or that little voice inside your head, will help you gain clarity on what path to take, how to get where you want to go, and what inspired and aligned action will be necessary.
I definitely also always ask my angels for assistance in manifesting - they can be quite powerful companions. They’re available to everyone regardless of your religious beliefs and they want to help you. They’re main purpose is helping our souls navigate this tricky human realm easier (just like our Spirit Guides!), so why not utilize their assistance?
Anyway, no matter what your intention for using your intuition may be, I just want you to know that it’s possible for you to use it! Keep working that intuitive muscle, keep training, keep practicing, and one day it’ll just be second nature; just a natural part of you.
Our intuition really is such a gift from the universe that most people ignore, but if you use it right, it can lead you to the most beautiful things; it can lead you to your happiness.
