Here on Long Island there is definitely no shortage of sunflower fields, but some are definitely bigger & better than others.
So, whether you are looking to do a fabulous sunflower photoshoot or just soak in the beauty, here are my personal 2 favorite sunflower fields to hit up!
North Fork Sunflower Maze :
North Fork Sunflower Maze is located in Mattituck, NY and is massive. This one definitely stretched out for a while, so you can get really great photos with depth… plus the sunflowers are pretty big so it’s actually really easy to angle your camera to get others out of your photo!
Their sunflower maze opens usually around late July (they say it all depends on Mother Nature), so going in early to mid August would be ideal. Last year, I went on August 9th & it was perfect timing.
Also if you’re going specifically to take pictures, I recommend going in the late afternoon so you can get that magical evening glow. Going around noon, the lightning will be way too harsh, and there’s something sooo lovely about the sunset in the sunflowers.
*Bonus! The best part about this particular sunflower maze is that they also sell homemade potato chips! They’re kettle cooked and sooo good! According to their website they have 7 flavors: Original Plain, Rosemary & Garlic, Cheddar & Onion, Sweet Potato, Salt & Vinegar, Sour Cream & Onion, and BBQ.
Personally I love the BBQ & Sweet Potato.

Waterdrinker Farms :
Located in Manorville, NY , is open every day from 9-5. This sunflower field seems to be in full bloom a little earlier than the North Fork Sunflower Maze - I just visited on July 23rd and it was full bloom!
They have a U-Pick sunflower section as well as a sunflower maze - both are great for pictures! It’s not as big as the North Fork Sunflower Maze, but it’s definitely not small. The sunflowers seemed a little smaller too, but they’re just as cute and blooming.
While North Fork is just sunflowers and potato chips - this one has farm animals, mini golf for little kid, play grounds, and a jumping pad - basically it’s really great for kids, so if you want a kid-free zone don’t go here, but if you don’t mind it’s still great for pictures & to see some cute little goats.
Also great to note that Waterdrinker Farms is a place you can go to year round as they have some great festivals for every season!
They have a fall festival for pumpkin picking!
They have a winter wonderland festival complete with cute christmas-y themed spots for great photos. & They even have outdoor ice skating.
& in the spring, they have the Tulip festival, which I LOVED so much, it’s so gorgeous and totally worth going.
So I’d recommend following them on instagram so you can check out when each of their seasonal festivals opens. :)

BONUS:
Rottkamp’s Fox Hollow Farm Stand in Calverton, NY has a sunflower maze, it’s pretty small & I personally haven’t taken pictures here I’ve just passed by… but about 1000 feet away is For Goodness Cakes Co - a food truck with the most AMAZING cookies & little desserts.
Follow them on insta, their pics are aesthetically so pretty!
My friend & I stopped there and I had the sea salt chocolate chip cookie and it was easily the best chocolate chip cookie I’ve ever had in my life (and I’ve eaten a LOT of them LOL). I also had the raspberry macaron and it was again, the best raspberry macaron I’ve ever had.
My friend got the rainbow cookies and a cupcake as well and said it was amazing.
So absolutely worth checking it out!!!
