Last year, I shared all the inspirational books I read in 2021 and it was a such a popular blog that I wanted to do it again.I know in the spiritual community we all love book recommendations, so I’m here to share! Honestly I think consistently filling your brain with empowering content really helps you believe it’s all possible, stay positive, and consistently stick to mindset changes and manifestation.
I will admit I definitely didn’t read as much as I did in 2021, but I still had a few good ones.
Since as a writer, I’m on the computer a lot, I actually primarily use audiobooks. This helps me protect my eyes, so they’re not so strained, but I can still do all the reading I love to do. I find audiobooks are also an easier way to get your reading in - as I can include it during activities I'm already doing like driving or working out. So lots of my recommendations will be audiobooks, but most of them are available in both forms.
So here’s the spiritual books I read in 2022 in no particular order, just the order I thought of them!
Hurt, Healing, Healed by Emma Mumford
Emma is amazing; I connected with her on instagram and I was lucky to receive a gift package from her for her new book! I have since read the book and I love it. It’s soooo helpful; honestly this is the kind of work that will really help people get to the next level. It’s all about processing your pain, understanding what’s holding you back, and healing it so you can finally move forward. This one definitely resonated with the vibe of my 2022 (I did a lotttt of healing going into the Akashic Records). I highly recommend this book!
I also read the audio-book version of it and since Emma is British she has the loveliest accent and is so pleasant to listen to!
The Secret By Rhonda Byrne (RE-READ)
So I actually decided to re-read the Secret. I wrote a whole blog post about it specifically here, I know the Secret gets picked on a lot by modern spiritual teachers, but honestly I think it’s so helpful. I will say, now, it’s a bit old, I particularly do not think Rhonda’s section on weight loss aged well at all, I let out a big “yikessss” when listening to her describe that section. But other than that, it’s really helpful. Sure it doesn’t go deep enough (like Emma’s book!) but the basic principles are incredibly uplifting. Watch your thoughts, think good thoughts, believe it and feel it with all your heart, and so it shall be! The only thing they leave out is healing your limiting beliefs and working with the subconscious, which is vital to manifesting. But the basic principles of The Secret are really helpful and remind us to stay positive and realize how powerful our thoughts are and for that I think it’s worth a read or re-read.
Find your Cosmic Calling by Natalie Walstein (Soulshine Astrology creator)
I'm a big fan of Natalie and her Soulshine Astrology account! I think this book is a really great Astrology starter book. It helps you understand your chart - and what each sign / house in each planet means about you! I would definitely recommend it for those looking to learn more about Astrology and themselves.
The Runes by Lisa Peschel
So I personally felt really called to learn Runes this year (I bought a set in 2011 with the intention to learn and completely forgot about them, but spirit was trying to bring them back in my life this time so I listened!). I was up on a mini-getaway in Mystic, CT and stopped by Becca Rose, the spiritual shop, to see if they had any runes things and they had this one book, so I bought it. It was old for sure, it appears to have been written in the 80s and some of the language is definitely dated (for example when it talks about conducting readings for romance, it mentions what stones represent the man in the relationship and which the woman in the relationship …which obvs is not inclusive and not nice, but I will take into context the fact that it is an old book written several decades ago and honestly they were unfortunately probably told by the publisher and society to write it that way) but aside from that, overall I did learn a lot. The author comes off a bit mean-ish in the beginning? So not sure how I feel about her, but again old book and I feel like everyone was mean back then hahaha. Overall, It was very thorough and a quick read that helped me learn the basic meanings.
The Nordic Book of Runes by Jonathan Dee
This Runes book felt more modern. I appreciated the pictures and the easy-to-follow layout of the book. It did have some contradicting descriptions from the previous runes book, so that just led me to do some more research or to come to my own conclusions by seeing the middle ground between the two. For example, the previous runes book I mentioned said Thurisaz meant protection and good luck while this book said it meant thorns / blockages. Thus, I concluded that the Rune meant protection from the Universe by blocking you from what’s not meant for your highest good in order to lead you to what is for your highest good.
The author did however seem to take the more negative approach to each of the runes, like some of them left me feeling kind of down (I felt like a vibed more with the older book's interpretations!) but I'm definitely going to do more research to find common ground.
The book also just kind of ends abruptly with no conclusion. Overall, I liked the pictures and the easy-to-readness of the book, but I'm bot sure it was *the book* to learn Runes from.
Self Care by the Signs by Valerie Tejeda
This one was actually a free one included with my Audible membership so I decided to try it out! It was a cute little astrology book that went through each of the signs. It was a quick read, not too detailed, but I thought it was interesting and. Would recommend for anyone looking to learn a bit more about each sign!
Chill and Prosper by Denise Duffield-Thomas
I honestly will say I started this book but I didn’t finish it. I think it had some great points about letting go and running your own business, but the more I got into it the less practical advice it seemed to have. A lot of it just felt like “just chill out and success will come to you.” Okay, but how? I probably won’t go back into reading this … maybe it will resonate for someone else or someone making lots more money, but for where I was in my stage of business it didn’t feel very helpful tbh. If anything it felt more frustrating, like it was so easy for everyone except me, so I would not recommend this book. Denise seems really nice and inspiring though.
Discover Your Dharma by Sahara Rose
I liked this book! It wasn't my favorite book ever but I thought it was interesting and informative. Sahara had unique perspectives on things and it didn’t feel just like a repeat of information I’ve read before. I thought her story was inspiring, too, and I appreciated that she was a millennial telling these facts (usually these books are written by older generations). My only complaint was that Sahara’s narration was so incredibly slow, but when I sped it up to x2 it felt like a normal human speaking speed 😅 (Keep in mind I am a New Yorker, so I tend to be faster than most lol).
RECENTLY STARTED/ DIDN’T FINISH YET:
Wild Magic by Danu Forest
I just started this one because, being of almost entirely Irish descent, I realized I wanted to learn more about Celtic magic! I took a class earlier this year at Spirit + Soul Studio about Italian Folk Magic, so I wanted the Irish version! So far I like this book and it’s interesting and seems t have good, helpful information.
TO BE READ:
A Survivor’s Story by Gena Bradshaw
I downloaded this book but haven’t read it yet but I’m super excited too! Gena is another teacher at Spirit + Soul Studio that I’ve had the pleasure to meet and she is just such a sweet and fun soul with great energy. This book is Gena’s story about surviving cancer. The book description says: “You will learn about the connection between mind, body and soul, the science behind it, and how to live to your fullest health and potential.” I’m excited to read this one and support such a beautiful soul! <3
