This past weekend, I went to Roosevelt Field Mall’s latest installation, The Floral Escape. The Floral Escape is a beautiful, rainbow space designed to help you get those perfect instagram photos.
They previously had an outdoor exhibit at Queens County Farm (which is how I had heard of them) but have since moved to indoor mall installations in New Jersey and Miami. I was reluctantly considering maybe making the trip one day to Jersey to check it out and get pictures, however I was happy to discover that as of the end of April, they opened a new chapter here on Long Island on the top floor of Roosevelt Field Mall!
I booked tickets for first thing in the morning, 10am on a Saturday. I was a little hesitant and worried that it would be super crowded (when I had gone to Queens County Farm on a weekday in 2020 it was packed) however I used all my powers to manifest an empty space and sure enough when we got there we were the first to arrive and the only people for majority of our duration. A few other women showed up later on, but it was still such a pleasant experience having a mainly empty space.
The two workers there that morning were really nice, and when you get there they offer you a tripod or ring light as if they are free, however they are $20 to rent. I didn’t use either as I had my resident photographer / instagram boyfriend Justin with me, however I do think the Ring Light would be great for added lighting (however leave it up to your judgement if the extra $20 is worth it!) The place is very bright however, I will say in some of the installations the lights create too much of a contrast and the lighting was way too harsh or shadowy for pictures. Editing in the Pink space especially was rough, but the Red Space and the Purple/step space was the best.
Overall, the space was huge and I was obsessed with the rainbow carpet, it was so soft and vibrant!
There’s about 11 installations each one a beautiful and aesthetically pleasing display with a different color.
It smells really nice too! And there’s some fake flower bouquets you can purchase - I also saw some of the other women ask the employees if they could hold some of the bouquets for props and they let them.
My favorite part though was that they had changing booths! Each booth had a vibrant colored curtain. I love that they encourage you to bring outfit changes, which of course, my Virgo Self did, having a dress for each matching installation.
Next to the changing booths there was a big white space, so I’m curious if in the future if they’ll add another installation.
Overall, I definitely recommend this place it was a lot of fun! (and if you’re not on Long Island, you can definitely check out the Jersey or Miami ones if you’re nearby! Each place appears to have different setups, which is super cool!)
The place was really clean, the photo segments were cute, the staff was nice, it smelled floraly in there lol.
Like I said the only downside is not great lighting in some of the areas, so if you’re not a master photo editor like myself, definitely either rent their ring lights or bring your own! Even with years of editing like me, I still struggled to salvage some photos (the 2 light pink areas and the white especially) due to poor lighting so keep that in mind.
It’s a great spot to take pictures for your instagram account, having a photoshoot with friends, or even to celebrate a special occasion.
It’s $25 per person, and like I said I recommend grabbing those first few time slots in the morning if you’re going on a weekday. I was able to get a picture in every installation within my allotted hour, but that’s only because it was empty. I feel like if you’re there on a weekday afternoon or a more crowded time, you’re going to have to wait for others to finish up and that can definitely eat into your time. Definitely would recommend a weekday as well! <3
